Since running her popular series of Make Acting Work (“I was Brilliant in the Bedroom”) workshops at the marvellous old Actors Centre in Tower Street the world has changed. Even top actors vie for roles they might previously have been offered automatically! No more lovely face to face auditioning in front of Directors and Producers. With the rise of digital media, it’s an impersonal world of self-tapes, video auditions and technology. The competition is fierce. Yet the audition process is far from dead. Many of the old criteria still apply. Identifying and marketing your ‘brand’, showcasing your skills and sight reading techniques that bring your work to life are as relevant today as they ever were. A good actor can make even a second-rate script sound good! A good actor can make a Business Directory sound interesting. Chrys will be focussing on a few elements of the process, hopefully giving everyone a chance to be a guinea pig so they can learn from each other. Join Chrys to learn a few tricks of the trade.
Chrys Salt MBE is an award-winning director and writer and was one of the old Actors Centre’s longest serving tutors. She has written seven books for actors on both auditioning and the business of acting, worked extensively in theatre and sound and has run workshops from as far afield as The Yukon, The Outer Hebrides, Tasmania, and many other places closer to home. In 2014 she was awarded an MBE for Services to the Arts.
